They say time flys when you're having fun. We've made it to November and looking back this year has been a blur. How is it November already? Let's keep having fun with November's wine selections. This month I am featuring selections from South Africa and South America.
Not only am I having fun but I'm still learning new stuff about wine...I love it.
Remember back in September when we had California month and featured some wines by Paul Hobbs. I tried the 2021 Felino Malbec way back in April and I finally get to put it on the roster. Viña Cobos, the winery, is located in Mendoza, Argentina and was established by Paul Hobbs in 1998.
The white wine selection this month is the 2018 Steenburg Semillion. We head back to South Africa to where the winery is located on the Western Cape first farm, established in 1682. Today the winery has a 5-star hotel, spa and restaurant.
The white wine is another South American Paul Hobbs wine from Viña Cobos - this month the Sapphire selection is the 2021 'Vinculum' Chardonnay.
Vinculum - from the Latin meaning "a bond or link." According to the website it "celebrates the connection between Viña Cobos and its producers, an essential link forged in the exchange of knowledge that leads to the creation of exceptional wines."
The red wine selection is from the Stellenbosch district of South Africa. The 2018 Neil Ellis Cabernet Sauvignon is this months November selection for the Sapphire level.
Neil Ellis is a South African wine industry icon and one of the first people to bring quality levels up to world class standards.
Another Viña Cobos selection - it makes it easy when the wines are amazing. The Peacock selection this month is the 2018 Viña Cobos 'Vinculum' Malbec. James Suckling rated this wine with 95 points and the Wine Spectator 92 points. Again a beautiful synergy between winery and vineyard.
Last but not least - the Bubbles. The 2011 Clos Bourmault Grand Cru is a sparkling masterpiece that captivates with refined flavors and luxurious bubbles. Independently owned this Champagne house has been in the family for 5 generations. This 100% Chardonnay Champange with elevate your Thanksgiving dinner, or maybe you are simply indulging in life's pleasures on a random weekday. Life is too short not to celebrate and savor Champagnes' sparkling magic.
